a. Objective: Students will be able to identify commonly misunderstood words after completing a reading from a primary source.
b. Introduction: Students will enter the classroom to two different examples of incorrect use of language. I will greet them with basic instructions such as "take you seats. Do now on board." Also included will be a basic Do Now on the board, such as instructions to read a passage I've provided them, which will for the most part be written correctly but will include a few mistakes to see if students can identify them.
c. Model: Following the Do Now I will ask students if they noticed the mistakes on the board and to identify those they did.
d. Guided Practice: Students will be provided a small passage from the textbook regarding voting in the colonies, which I will have altered with a few mistakes that while in small groups they will identify. Following the provided time we will reconvene and students will collectively identify the words and explain their reasoning.
e. Independent Practice: Students will each be provided a primary source of the Declaration of Independence.Portions of the declaration will have had some words altered and students will identify such words. Once they identify each word they will explain their reasoning and use the word properly in a sentence of their own.
